An Industrial Manufacturing Corporation and RMA worked together to improve management of regulatory compliance at 53 locations in 17 states. The company needed a way to manage all of its environmental information at all their facilities. There were several different types of production facilities as well as transfer facilities. The company did not have an Environmental Management System (EMS). Additionally, the company had never brought in an independent third party to perform environmental compliance audits. RMA conducted environmental compliance audits at all of the production facilities and at a minimum of one facility per state. Issues were corrected quickly. State and Federal regulations were analyzed for all 17 states for all media involved. Site-specific environmental compliance manuals were developed for all facilities. The manuals were uploaded to an internet system, making them available to all facilities online. Self-audit modules were developed for various supervisors to conduct periodic inspections. Results were uploaded and managers could view the results. Reporting and permitting deadlines were entered into the system which provided reminders to the appropriate personnel at preset intervals. These action items continued to show as action items until the submittal date was entered. Once an EMS was established for the corporation, efficiency in managing all of its environmental issues was greatly enhanced.
