Environmental management systems (EMSs) are used by companies to improve and maximize compliance at remote locations. Another reason is to qualify for EPA’s self-auditing policy. RMA EMSs include all nine of the elements required by EPA to qualify for penalty reductions and no recommendations for criminal prosecution. Companies also use EMSs to create savings through waste minimization. RMA has set up environmental management systems for manufacturing and distribution companies in such varied industries as chemical production, metal treaters, rendering operations and commercial laundries.
Corporate governance in the United States changed with the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act. Among other things, SOX mandates environmental accountability in publicly-held firms. Disclosure of environmental liabilities is required and corporate officers must certify that such disclosures are accurate. RMA can assist corporations with identifying environmental liabilities and quantifying those liabilities in terms of dollars. |
