Environmental Permits

Why Are Environmental Permits Necessary?

Permits help governments regulate the pollutants that may be harmful to our waterways, air, and drinking water.  However, many companies don’t know if they need, aren’t sure what type they need, and lack knowledge about how to apply for permits.  For example, our experience shows that many small- to medium-sized manufacturers are unaware of their need for a stormwater permit.

What Is the Cost of Not Being Compliant?

The cost of not knowing about necessary environmental permits can lead to fines of up to $102,638 per violation per day under the Clean Air Act.  That’s per VIOLATION per DAY! That is  not a typo.  And ignorance of the law is no excuse. The agency can even calculate a violator’s monetary benefit from not being compliant and include that in the fine.

How Do I Obtain a Permit?

The process of obtaining a permit can be complicated and confusing. This is because many applications are complex and require a substantial regulatory knowledge to complete.  Additionally, many permit applications are tedious, online, and seldom user-friendly (to put it nicely).

Permit Compliance

Environmental Permit Complexities

Knowledge of the regulations is usually required to get exemptions for your facility. Also, you must have a working knowledge of your facility’s operational and technical processes to submit wastewater and air permit applications successfully. In addition, wastewater applications usually require sampling and laboratory analysis. Likewise, air applications require much technical data and calculations.  Also, some conditions are negotiable, but that is not advertised.
