Public Wastewater

Rindt-McDuff Associates (RMA) has over 40 years of extensive consulting services for municipal wastewater systems. Our engineers understand the importance of safe and reliable sewerage system projects performed on time and within budget.

RMA Public Wastewater Projects:

  • Conventional Wastewater Treatment Facilities
  • Gravity Sewer Collection Systems
  • Sewer Lift Stations and Force Mains
  • Wastewater Land Application Systems

Below are summaries of these categories.

Conventional Public Wastewater Treatment Facilities

Rindt-McDuff Associates helps public municipalities improve existing wastewater treatment facilities or design new wastewater treatment facilities. We know how important it is to treat safe wastewater before it ends up in our waterways.  That’s why our engineer’s primary focus is on environmental health and safety for your community.

Funding Services for Public Water Treatment Facilities

RMA can help communities plan and identify funding alternatives for wastewater treatment facility improvements. Funding services include evaluating loan/grant programs, permitting requirements, studies, reports, and detailed design activities. Our engineers can also provide detailed design plans for the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) approval and bidding process. Last, RMA offers complete construction administration services, including construction phase project management and construction inspection services.

Scalable Public Water Treatment Plants

RMA is well-versed in EPD’s ever-changing design requirements and regulatory revisions. Our treatment plant designs allow for more manageable, less costly plant expansions to keep up with demands. Further, RMA can assist with additions to your wastewater treatment facility or new wastewater facility design.

Gravity Sewer Collection Systems

The series of pipes and pumps that carry sewage from residential, commercial, or industrial customers to a wastewater treatment facility is essential to a community. Therefore, when our engineer’s design collection and conveyance systems, we take it seriously.  Our designs protect the environment and provide a higher quality of life and better working conditions within the community.

Planning, Permitting & Construction Administration for Sewer Collection Systems

RMA provides municipal and government authorities with new construction planning, permitting design, and administration services.  We also help  improve existing sewer collection and conveyance systems.

Sewer Lift Stations and Force Mains

RMA has extensive experience designing sewer lift stations. Lift stations collect sewer in low-lying areas and pump it to a higher gravity sewer collection or another lift station. The pipe carrying the sewage from the lift station is called the force main. Gravity sewer collection lines and lift stations transport sewer water into the wastewater treatment facility. Where possible, it is generally a good idea to minimize lift stations and instead rely on gravity sewer lines.  Consequently, minimizing the lift stations reduces the cost and headache of maintaining them.

Also, during power outages, lift stations that do not have generators can over-flow. Most communities can eliminate the majority of their lift stations over time by installing gravity sewer lines. However, there are times when the use of a lift station is the only feasible option.

Public Wastewater Land Application Systems

Land Application Systems are wastewater treatment facilities that receive wastewater, provide for a limited treatment process, and spray the effluent into wooded or vegetative environments. The grass, trees, and other vegetative material then complete the treatment process. Generally, Land Application Systems is a desirable option for treatment when stream discharge, as with a conventional treatment plant, is not permitted. Zoning helps avoid overload in different areas of the spray field. Monitoring wells are located at the land application sites for a periodic sampling of nitrogen, fecal coliform, and other components mandated by EPD.

Planning, Permitting & Construction Administration for Wastewater Land Application Systems

RMA provides planning, permitting, design, and construction administration services for land application systems. Also, RMA helps municipal clients determine the treatment capacity for a particular site, the ability to expand if needed, the existing environmental limitations, and other design or permitting requirements.
